Just the essentials

Have you ever had to go on a trip where you could take only a limited number of things, just the essentials?

A number of years ago a good friend of mine took his family on a four-month trip through Southeast Asia.  Geoff and his wife have four kids, who at that time were in grade school and high school. They had planned an amazing adventure, but the catch was that each person could take  only one backpack worth of stuff with them for the entire time(see picture below of the actual backpacks). Can you imagine trying to pack everything you need for four months into one backpack?  In order to do this Geoff and his family had to narrow down what they were taking to just the essentials, the things they could not live without.  One of the things my friend’s family learned on their four-month journey was what really matters most in life.

Sometimes in life we accumulate a lot of things.  Possessions, habits, beliefs, behaviours and even attitudes all accumulate over time.  Often the things we accumulate in life aren’t really essential and sometimes they even get in our way.  Every so often we need to take a look at our lives and see if we really need all the baggage we are carrying around.

This weekend we are going to get back to the essentials, to the one thing that you just can’t live without.  We’ll be exploring 1 Corinthians 15:1-11 and the one essential that will make all the difference in your life.

I hope you’ll join us this weekend as we celebrate Jesus’ resurrection, beginning Friday with our Good Friday Service at 10:30 am and then our Resurrection Service on Sunday at 10:30 am.

See you this weekend!
